About the Project Manager/Senior Engineer Position

This is your opportunity to take on a leadership position within our team of creative and talented engineers. As a Project Manager/Senior Engineer, you’ll lead a variety of unique and challenging design projects, thought-partnering with industry leaders while also helping to build strong business relationships for the firm and serve as a mentor for junior staff.

We’re looking for an experienced, licensed engineer with a demonstrated ability to “think outside of the box” when it comes to solving design problems and who possesses an in-depth knowledge and application of the building code. To be successful in this position, you must understand that getting the job done means overseeing the delivery of high quality work while being mindful of our clients' time and budget constraints.

Annual compensation for this full-time position ranges between 125,000 and 155,000 based on experience. Job responsibilities, requirements, and benefits for this at-will position are detailed below.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced lateral and gravity analysis and design of structures utilizing wood, steel, masonry, and concrete systems
  • Engage in and/or lead business development opportunities alongside MBC’s Principals
  • Manage preparation of project working drawings between Junior Engineers, CAD staff, and others
  • Develop proposals and oversee projects between clients, consultants, and contractors
  • Use expertise to review and interpret technical documents from other consultants (geotechnical engineering reports, civil engineering plans, etc.)
  • Review shop drawings for compliance with construction contract documents
  • Conduct site visits and structural observations for work in progress
  • Issue field instructions, change orders, respond to RFI’s, and other construction administrative documentation
  • Prepare engineering reports based on visual inspections of the buildings and review of the available building drawings

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated individual with a minimum of 10 years’ proven experience in analysis and design of structures for schools, offices, retail stores, warehouses, multi-family housing, large residences, etc.
  • California CE license required and SE license strongly preferred
  • BSCE (or related, specialized degree) required and master’s level degree preferred
  • Extensive project experience and background that is well-versed in seismic design and structural design utilizing steel, concrete, wood, light gage steel, and masonry
  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience, including project coordination and involvement with business development
  • Excellent communication, time management, and technical writing skills
  • Proficiency in structural modeling and design programs (RISA, ETABS, SAFE, SAP, ADAPT)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
  • Ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships for the firm
  • A strong team player that can work well with a variety of personalities to achieve mutual goals and serve as a mentor for other team members
