Built in the 1915, the building was the original home of the Hamm's Brewery and features a 7 feet diameter reinforced concrete chimney stack. The chimney extends 56 feet above the 13 story building and tops out nearly 200 feet above grade level. To improve the chimney's seismic performance, Murphy Burr Curry, Inc. developed a strengthening program to reinforce the chimney with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) strips on the outer surface of the stack. The FRP strips extended two stories below the roof level, where they are anchored back to the building's existing shear wall system. The work was completed in three months, with minimal disruption to the tenants of the building.
