Murphy Burr Curry delivered comprehensive, start-to-finish structural engineering services for a Seismic retrofit and renovation of the historic H.C. Capwell Department Store building, formerly the Sears Building, in the heart of the Oakland Uptown neighborhood. These services were performed to create a new home for Uber’s Oakland Headquarters.

The seismic retrofit includes new interior steel-braced frames fronting a newly created 6-story tall interior atrium with a glass skylight. Other structural components included floor strengthening for new rooftop terraces and interior monumental stairs.
